Wolverhampton Ukrainian Community Centre

I was glad to be on hand at the  today as the volunteers loaded a van – provided by Royal Mail – with relief goods for refugees fleeing the war. The van left us to collect a generator – again gifted by Royal Mail – and was then going on to Peterborough where the goods will be loaded, together with donations from across the UK, onto a fleet of large lorries going direct to Western Ukraine.

It was pleasing to be told, several times, that the Rotary Club of the City of Wolverhampton is held in very high regard by the community for the help we are providing.

District Final of the Young Musician Competition

It is pleasing to be able to record that even while Rotarans are focused on supporting Ukraine and helping the refugees, our other activities continue.
The winner of the District Final of the Young Musician Competition was 17 year old trombonist Sebastain Brailsford, sponsored by the Rotary club of The City of Wolverhampton.
His award was presented by District Governor Robyn Davies after what the adjudicators described as ‘a fautless performance.’

Bantock Blooming for End Polio Now

The crocus planted last Ocotber and in previous years in Bantock Park are in full bloom. Planted with the help of The Mayor of Wolverhampton Councillor Greg Brackenridge and children from Uplands Junior and Merridale Primary schools, they are the symbol of Rotary International’s campaign to eliminate

the scourge of polio from the world.

When the campaign started in 1988, there were over 1000 new cases throughout the world every day. To date in 2022, there has been only 1 case in Pakistan and 1 in Afghanistan.
