Rotary International
Is the oldest service organisation in the world, established in 1905 in Chicago.
There is a membership of 1.2 million in 35,000 clubs in over 200 countries.
The objectives are:
– to provide service to others ,
– to promote high ethical standards in business, and
– to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace
through a fellowship of business, professional and community leaders
The Rotary Foundation, the movement’s own international charity, has annual charitable giving in excess of £100 Million.

In addition to this, individual clubs distribute substantially greater sums locally, nationally and internationally, wherever there is need.

Principal achievements
Largest Educational Scholarship programme in the world.
A prime mover in the campaign to eradicate polio, worldwide.
Forty nine Rotarians helped draft the UN Charter.
Substantial disaster support.
Extensive programme of aid to underdeveloped countries.

Rotary in the UK
There are over 55,000 Rotary members in Great Britain & Ireland.

These are members of 1,800 Rotary clubs, which make up RIB1 (Rotary International in Britain & Ireland).

RIBI is administered under its own constitution within that of Rotary International.

The RIBI headquarters are at Alcester in Warwickshire, where a professional Secretariat acts as a focal point and administrative centre for Rotary activities.

The clubs in RIBI are formed into 29 Districts.

Wolverhampton’s clubs are among the 55 clubs which comprise Distict 1210, which includes most of Staffordshire, Shropshire and part of the West Midlands.
